When Archbishop Ireland founded the Academy in 1885, he undoubtedly anticipated the many crossroads that would lie ahead. At each crossroad, visionary leaders have had the courage to chart a new course – opening the new campus in Mendota Heights in 1965, for example. In some ways, however, the Academy experience has changed little over the decades. All male and Catholic-centered, with a college-preparatory curriculum and military leadership program, the values that were fostered yesterday are still honored today.
We stand at yet another defining moment in the history of Saint Thomas Academy. After a successful endowment phase of the Capital Campaign, we take the next step in the journey to maintain the Academy’s position of strength, as we begin the building phase of the Defining Moment Capital Campaign.
Facilities are a critical element in providing the outstanding educational opportunities for which we are known. The original Mendota Heights campus is no longer "new," and the Academy struggles to accommodate the expanded needs for academic instruction and co-curricular experiences of today’s student body. We want to ensure that our long-term competitiveness as a preferred educational institution is never at risk due to lack of facilities.
As we are in this 127th year for STA, we look to expand the vision of Archbishops Ireland and Roach for the next 50 to 100 years.
We invite you to visit the sub-pages to the left and explore our vision for the third century of the Academy.
